2018 Toyota Century is straight outta the 90s and is awesome!

You may not know much about the Toyota Century; unless you’ve lived in Japan, there’s almost no reason for you to even realize the Toyota Century exists. Launched in 1967, the hand-built flagship sedan/limousine has only ever been sold in its home market, and even there, it’s a sort of an anti-halo car. Istead of showing them off, using them to highlight the level of craftsmanship Toyota’s builders are capable of achieving, Toyota relegates them to special dealerships. You have to be invited to buy one, and the process isn’t exactly linked to your social media following: It’s popular with businessmen possessed of extremely conservative taste and nothing to prove. The Emperor is driven in one.

Toyota rolled out a brand-new Century at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Like the return of Halley’s Comet or a continent-spanning solar eclipse, the debut of a new Century is a momentous occasion -- in part because it just doesn't happen very often. Consequently, I’m thinking more about the model than I normally do.

What is it about the Century that is so endlessly fascinating? A lot of times, car geeks get attached to vehicles because they’re not sold in our home markets. Admittedly, that’s part of what drew me to the Century in the first place. I also happen to love its looks, which are a sort of case study in what happens when you freeze a design language moments after the first car rolls down the line and then slightly defrost it for minor modifications, rarely, over the next fifty years. You might not understand why anyone would buy something that looks vaguely like a pre-oil crisis Lincoln product. I can't get enough of it. We’ll just have to agree to disagree here; in any case, the style question doesn’t really invalidate my argument: When it comes to luxury cars, other manufacturers have a lot to learn from the Century’s effortless confidence.

Red Velvet Cake is a Fucking Lie

I went most of my life without ever trying Red Velvet cake. It just wasn't a thing that existed in my life. Maybe it's because of I grew up in Northern California and Red Velvet was more of a Southern U.S. thing. Maybe because I was raised by forward-thinking parents and had intelligent friends. Who knows? I'd never even heard of it before seeing the famous armadillo cake in Steel Magnolias. Then some time in my 30's, out in the wilds of the world it was at some party I was at and I tried it.

The Renault company is strongly associated with the new design and cutting-edge technology

The front-mounted 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine develops 280hp. The finely-tuned suspensions and chassis allow a fast and agile driving style that adapts to all road conditions, and meticulous acoustical studies were applied to engine design. Fluence is as much a pleasure to drive as a top-of-the-range saloon, while its six-speed automatic transmission with flick-shift control adds to driving comfort and serenity.
Strictly a concept, Renault has no plans to put Fluence into production but its design will heavily influence other new Renaults in the next two or three years.

All the very best to you on your plan! These recipes here would surely make your plan a delicious one to stick too!

“My passion is creating vegan and gluten-free recipes that everyone can enjoy, no matter their lifestyle. I’ve always loved cooking and remember spending time in the kitchen with my mom as a child. As a young adult, the first cooking show that really inspired me was Yan Can Cook on public television. Besides cooking (and eating), I really enjoy running. I’ve run at least a mile every day for the past 1250+ days. I also like to complete in races from the 5K to the marathon.”

Raspberry Blood Orange Cake

All I want to eat around here is fruit. Juicy, ripe, vibrant fruit. Watermelon, BC cherries, red berries - you name it. It is actually HOT here in Vancouver, and summer fruit is the only thing I find refreshing. Okay, you might be thinking - HOT in Canada? Oh please. But hey, this California girl knows a thing about heat, and yes, it is toasty up here. Like sweat-all-day-while-baking hot. It is most likely because we don't have A/C and I bake all day, but still. Bring on the fruit!

These cupcakes are so cute Kat, I love a ginger cupcake or muffin or cake actually lol

What better way to begin celebrating the Christmas season than with these gingerbread cupcakes. Gingerbread flavour and gingerbread men just scream Christmas, they make me feel so festive and ready to curl up under a blanket on the sofa. I’ve infused these gingerbread cupcakes with ground ginger and mixed spice for that classic gingerbread flavour, and there’s also ground ginger in the buttercream for extra yum! I found some absolutely adorable gingerbread men fondant decorations and sprinkles to decorate them with, and you can easily find these online. I’ve linked them below too via Amazon so you can easily recreate every element of this recipe!

The spiral slant would allow them to fold their legs tightly against the body absolutely seamlessly in a way which is impossible to achieve for bilaterally symmetrical domestic arthropods

This inspired a very lively discussion in the comments sections why the legs would be slanted. Among the possible advantages were that the animal would be less high, so it could fit in a crevasse among rocks, or it would be less likely to be swept away by tidal waters. Another argument was that the slanted posture allows more muscles to be recruited for propulsion.

You did not go easy on yourself here, the anatomies are alien, the lighting conditions are very out of the ordinary,

For once I will show a complete painting. Well, more or less. The painting in question is part of a two page spread concerning 'Fishes VI'. The six groups of 'Fishes' are part of the hexapod family tree, with Fishes I, II, III and V as the direct ancestors of terrestrial hexapods, and Fishes IV and VI as parallel aquatic groups. Mind you, I wondered about using 'Fish' instead of 'Fishes', as 'Fish' in English can be both singular as well as plural. A singular language, English. I found that 'Fishes' can be used to describe multiple species, so that seemed the right choice.

In Fishes VI the third, i.e. the last, pair of flippers have fused to form a horizontal fluke, very much like that of whales. The problem with making 'Fish' alien is the high probability that a torpedo-like streamlined shape is rather likely to evolve as a 'universal' feature. I chose to accept that, so 'Fishes' superficially look much like Terran animals. But they share their world with cloakfish, kwals and aquatic wadudu, so there are definitely some odd shapes to be found too. And Fishes VI are not all that 'earthy': after all, they have four jaws, four eyes, their respiratory system is completely separate from the digestive tract, etc.

The painting combines several themes. I will split it in four panels that show various species of Fishes VI in 'powers of 10', meaning each species is 10 times as large as the previous one, starting at 4.5 cm. Each panel will also show the species eating, so food webs can be illustrated as well.

I like pondering our relationships with animals because they tell a lot about who we are. Donkey

The way we think about other species often defies logic. Consider Judith Black. When she was 12, Judith decided that it was wrong to kill animals just because they taste good. But what exactly is an animal? While it is obvious that dogs and cats and cows and pigs are animals, it was equally clear to Judith that fish were not. They just didn’t feel like animals to her. So for the next 15 years, this intuitive biological classification system enabled Judith, who has a PhD in anthropology, to think of herself as a vegetarian, yet still experience the joys of smoked Copper River salmon and lemon-grilled swordfish.

Oven Baking Sausage: Quick, Easy and Minimal Mess

There are so many ways to cook sausage; Grilled, Boiled, Broiled, Pan Fry, Pan Steamed and Baked to name a few.
Having tried all of these techniques I can say that baking sausage (homemade or store bought), is the simplest, easiest, least mess and for me the most confident way to know that they have been completely cooked.
When cooking sausage there is a double concern. The first concern is that all ground meat should be cooked to 160 degrees and the second issue is that pork in the United States can harbor the parasite Tricinosis.

The Moto Z2 Force is Android’s next big modular flagship phone

Lenovo has pulled the wraps off its second device in the Moto Z2 line at an event in New York City. It’s called the Moto Z2 Force, and it improves on its predecessor in a number of key areas, while retaining the company’s trademark Moto Mods functionality. The Z2 Force is Motorola’s flagship for 2017, and it follows the launch of the Z2 Play last month. The Z2 Force is a more expensive and well-equipped device than the Z2 Play, thanks to a more powerful chipset, more RAM, a new dual-camera setup, and a higher-resolution display. It also benefits from the company’s proprietary ShatterShield screen-protection technology, which appeared last year on the Verizon-exclusive Moto Z Force Droid.

Autocar's ugliest cars ever

PONTIAC AZTEK (2000): I admire designers who try something different, but when they produce a car like the Pontiac Aztek, which looks like a bucktoothed dinosaur, I’m not so sure. It has what look like two bonnet lines, gaping grilles, undersized wheels and, in base specification, lots of unpainted plastic – enough to make even the Fiat Multipla gag (SAM SHEEHAN - SENIOR STAFF WRITER). I was present when the wraps came off Pontiac’s eyesore SUV at an LA motor show preview in 2000. With hindsight, the pre-reveal video that concealed GM’s ugly duckling gave a clue that a nasty surprise was coming. But that was nothing compared to the embarrassed silence and nervous shuffling-in-seats as the audience absorbed the full horror unfolding on stage. (JULIAN RENDELL - SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT)

Looks so fun! Can I use white chocolate chips? I have some of those at home

This winter tree look-alike starts with three 6″ cake layers to make a really tall layered cake. You can use any cake flavor you like, but we were partial to this gingerbread latte cake. A tall cake means you have plenty of room to display your birch tree design on the sides and creating the tree bark is deceptively simple. It starts by painting dark chocolate melted candy coating in a birch tree inspired pattern and then layering it with a thin layer of white coating on top. Once firm, you can easily break the sheet of bark into shards to layer and decorate the sides of your cake. To make the snowy winter forest theme complete, we’ve added a few whimsical woodland cake novelties to add a focal point.

How To Make a Basket Cake step by step

The basket weave is one of those techniques that takes a little bit to learn, but once it 'clicks,' you can whip out a cake like this in 30 minutes flat!

Boil the liquid cream with the vanilla pod split and scraped

This recipe fits very well with red fruits but also with more exotic fruits, as you wish.

Chantilly vanilla ivory
- 150 g liquid cream with a minimum of 30%
- 45 g of white chocolate to be baked
- 1 vanilla bean

To prepare before the rest of the recipe (ideally the day before)
Boil the liquid cream with the vanilla pod split and scraped.
At the same time, melt the pre-chopped white chocolate in the microwave and pour the hot preparation in 3 times on the melted white chocolate, mixing vigorously with Maryse. Remove the pod, mix it with the dipping blender. Add the clove to the cream. Shoot the preparation on contact and place it in the fridge for 3 hours minimum or overnight.
